Amanda Lovejoy Street
I am a creative facilitator working internationally with artists, actors, writers, directors, musicians and those seeking to deepen a relationship between their creativity and their unconscious self.
One of the first dreams I worked with was when I was 12 years old. The dream offered me the image of three spinning teacups that had spirits inside of them. The spirits told me to put away the magic. At the time, I was really into witchcraft and spells and so I took this direction literally and got rid of all my books on the subject. Later, as I came to learn the revelatory language of dreams, I understood that my unconscious was actually sharing an old belief (held by old containers and disembodied figures) that I had to put away my magic because it wasn’t safe to share.
The dreams guide me in steadfast spiritual and practical counsel and have supported my own creative practice as a writer and filmmaker. Perhaps most importantly, the dreams reveal to me my psychology and belief systems developed from early childhood experiences, my family of origin and living in a society riddled with systemic issues.Jung says, the dreams are teleological -meaning they have a goal and that their goal is to guide us to remember and re-arrive into our individuated uncorrupted Self.
I was first introduced to the relationship between creativity and dreams in 2004 by my extensive studies with Sandra Seacat, whose work bridged acting techniques with dream work. I met Kim Gillingham in 2009 through Sandra. In addition to studying with Sandra, Kim also studied with renowned Jungian psychoanalyst, Marion Woodman, whose work is fundamental to this practice. I began an in-depth apprenticeship with Kim in 2013 and was a founding member of Creative Dream Work, developing and influencing the CDW practices. I facilitated with Creative Dream Work from 2018-2023 before developing my own practice, Feeling Tone.
Most recently, I taught in Sydney, Australia, Berlin, London, UK, the C.G. Jung Society of Victoria and became a consultant for the non-profit The First Ten. I was an advisor for the 2021 and 2022 New Zealand filmmaker's lab, Story Camp Aotearoa, have been a guest teacher at UCLA (New Genres), offered workshops with the nonprofit Get Lit, and brought Dream Work to the writers at CHANEL. I hold a certificate in Contemplative Care with the NY Zen Center and I am currently contemplating death daily with Spirit Rock's - A Year To Live. I am both trauma and recovery/12 step informed.
It is my continued exploration of my interior and somatic life coupled with 16 years of Insight Meditation, 20 years of Dream Work and investigating the connections between art, body and the psyche that have led me to my intuitive way of facilitating and creating.
